The Active Investor Plus Visa
The Active Investor Plus visa opens the door to New Zealand residency for investors and their families, allowing them to live, work, and study while contributing to the country's economic growth. Upon completing your investment commitment, you become eligible for permanent residency in New Zealand.
Visa Requirements
Starting April 1, 2025, the Active Investor Plus visa will introduce a new structure. Applicants must select either the Growth or Balanced investment category, each providing different investment opportunities and advantages.
Growth Category
Minimum investment amount: USD2.9 million*
Acceptable investments: Direct Investments or Managed Funds
Time to transfer and invest: 6 months from the date of Approval in Principle, with the option to apply for a 6 month extension
Visa (s49) conditions: Retain investment for 36 months Spend a minimum of 21 days in New Zealand over the investment period
Immigration checkpoints: 24 months and 36 months
English language requirement: none
Acceptable investments: Direct Investments or Managed Funds
Time to transfer and invest: 6 months from the date of Approval in Principle, with the option to apply for a 6 month extension
Visa (s49) conditions: Retain investment for 36 months Spend a minimum of 21 days in New Zealand over the investment period

Balanced Category
Minimum investment amount: USD5.8 million*
Acceptable investments: Listed equities, Philanthropy, Property development, Bonds, Applicants under the Balanced category may also invest in Growth category investments (Managed funds and/or Direct Investments)
Time to transfer and invest: 6 months from the date of Approval in Principle, with the option to apply for a 6 month extension
Visa (s49) conditions: Retain investment for 60 months. Spend a minimum of 105 days in New Zealand over the investment period, unless eligible for a reduction as a result of placing funds into Direct Investments or Managed Funds.
Immigration checkpoints: 24 months and 36 months
English language requirement: none
The Active Investor Plus visa applicant must also demonstrate good character and a standard of health.
